Adele on Sunday made history on three occasions in one night during the 59th Grammy awards that happened at Staples Centre Loss Angeles, a thing that will take a long time to break.
The 28-year old British pop star was nominated in five categories this year including Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Record of the Year for “Hello,” Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year. Adele walked away with all five trophies, beating out stars like Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Drake in the process.
Adele is now the only artiste to win Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year twice. Her second studio album, 21, won Album of the Year in 2012. That same year, her classic hit “Rolling in the Deep” took home the wins in both the Song and Record of the Year categories. (Song of the Year honors the songwriter(s), while Record of the Year honors those who recorded the song (i.e. the artist(s), producer(s), recording engineer(s), and/or mixer(s)).
She’s now the only other female artist to win Album of the Year twice, joining Taylor Swift, who won for Fearless in 2010 and 1989 in 2016.
